4 Reasons You’ll Love Mission

Rotary Plaza - Mission, KS

Once a rest stop for wagons traveling west on the Santa Fe Trail, Mission is now a fast-growing Kansas suburb with a population of just under 10,000. That same welcoming atmosphere from the 19th century lingers on in modern day Mission — wander a few miles south of downtown Kansas City and check out the sights!

For a unique twist on an antique mall, visit A Fabulous Find on the southeast corner of Johnson Drive and Nall. The 12,000-square-foot, newly-renovated space boasts over 150 vendors, who constantly restock their merchandise from week to week — giving you a fresh experience every visit.

Sisters Sandi Russell and Nancy Hansen founded Twisted Sisters Coffee Shop in August 2012 with the goal of providing a haven for conversation. There’s no public WiFi, so even if you’re by yourself, you can sit at the community table to make some new friends. And be sure to arrive early — Twisted Sisters is only open from 7:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Owner Robert “Bob” Palmgren enjoyed a rich history of food service before founding RJ’S Bob-Be-Que ten years ago. He started out working at his family’s grocery store off of Armour and Troost and continued on to a lifelong career in professional, fine-dining cuisine. RJ’s has attracted a devoted local following and has even been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.

On every Saturday, May through October, the city of Mission holds their very own Mission Farm and Flower Market, rain or shine. Located across from Twisted Sisters Coffee Shop at 5613 Johnson Drive, the farmer’s market features homegrown wares, arts and crafts, food trucks and even live entertainment.
